Barbara has been doing glass work for approximately 3 years. She was trained in the Bay Area. A year later she tried her hand at fused glass and found she really enjoyed the action of melting glass to form beautiful works of art. She learned that glass is a stunning medium. "You can incorporate a lot of different products by using glass, such as using liquid glass for painting, formed glass for vessels, or in conjunction with other materials like foil and wire to create jewelry." says Barbara about the art form.
Barbara and her husband have both learned different ways to work with glass, such as sandblasting designs into the glass and then using oil paint to color the sand blasted area. Barbara has always been skilled with artistic outlets such as painting and other crafts, but glass has given her the most satisfaction. She especially loves hearing the compliments that people wearing or displaying her art recieve. Her motivation to continue working with glass is the various amount of things that can be done with glass and how the end result of either fusing or stained glass is something very unique. "There are so many things to learn in glass work and very talented people to learn from," Barbara says about her guild.
Some of Barbara's glass work has been donated to The Shrine and one donated to The Shrine's Children Hospital, which is an honor to her.
She works with all kinds of glass; glass for fusing and also recycled glass, though her favorite is Dichroic becuase the color looks one way before firing and totally different afterwards. It also mixes with other glasses to make beautiful vases, candle holders, clocks, jewelry and other various items.
Barbara's training took place in the Bay Area. Her company name came from the location of her and her home which is at the summit of Bly Mountain just outside of Klamath Falls, OR. She has a studio there and also one in the Bay Area. Barbara's husband, Bill, works with Barbara in her studios. He's also very artistic and really knows how to think outside of the box! They both want to continue working together to build their glass business.
